#11 Tartans Rebound with 7-2 Win Against #18 Kenyon

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, newly ranked in Division III at 11, defeated Kenyon College, ranked 18th, by a 7-2 score on Thursday, March 10 after playing a long late-night match against fifth-ranked Wesleyan University on Wednesday. The Tartans are now 8-4 overall for the season.

The two schools elected to play singles first with the Tartans winning five of the six matches to secure the team win before doubles play began.

The Tartans' number one player, freshman Sarah Yang (Alpharetta, Ga. / Northview), led off the scoring with a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles. Freshman Zoe Angell (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) then won 6-1, 6-4 at sixth singles and junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) won 6-0, 6-2 at fourth singles.

The Tartans took a 4-0 lead when senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway), who recently won her 100th combined match, picked up a win at third singles, 6-3, 6-2.

Freshman Crystal Zhou (Austin, Texas / LASA) earned the match point at second singles with a 6-2, 7-5 score line.

In doubles play, Cornwall and Zheng won 8-4 in the first position, while Angell and junior Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) won 8-6 in the third position.

The Tartans will next face 39th-ranked Haverford College on Friday, March 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Eva courts.
