#11 Tartans Top #13 Mary Washington, 7-2

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 11th in the latest Division III ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, traveled to the University of Mary Washington, ranked 13th, for a Saturday afternoon match. The Tartans were victorious by a 7-2 score to move to 11-4 for the season.

The Tartans took a 2-1 lead after doubles play with an 8-7 (7-3) win at the second slot and an 8-6 win at the third slot. The victories were by senior Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) and freshman Crystal Zhou (Austin, Texas / LASA) and second doubles and freshman Zoe Angell (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) and junior Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) at third doubles.

Zhou, who is ranked seventh in the region, was the first to finish singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the second position against the 11th-ranked player in the region, Claire Coleman.

Qiang made the score 4-1 with a 6-0, 7-5 win at sixth singles, her 10th win of the season.

Angell recorded the match-point with a 6-2, 7-5 win at fifth singles to also win her 10th match of the season.

Other victories for the Tartans came from senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) at the third position, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and freshman Sarah Yang (Alpharetta, Ga. / Northview) in three sets at first singles, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).

The Tartans will next face 23rd-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Sunday at the University of Mary Washington at 1:00 p.m.
