#11 Tartans Top #12 Case Western Reserve for Third at UAA Championship

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 11-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished third at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Championship after topping 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve University, 5-1, on Sunday. The Tartans are now 15-6 while the Spartans move to 16-4.

Doubles play saw the Tartans take a 2-1 lead. Carnegie Mellon's second doubles team of senior Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) and freshman Crystal Zhou (Austin, Texas / LASA) took the first point of the match with an 8-3 victory. The Cardinal and Gray took a 2-0 when the third doubles tandem of junior Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) and freshman Zoe Angell (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) won 8-3.

Junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) gave the Tartans a 3-1 lead with a straight set victory at four singles winning by the scores of 6-1, 6-1. Angell won by the scores of 6-1, 6-2 at five singles to push the score to 4-1 before Qiang closed the match with a 6-1, 7-6 (2) win at six singles.

The Tartans will now wait to hear news of entrance to the NCAA Championship in the coming weeks.
