No. 11 Women’s Tennis Selected to Host NCAA Opening Rounds

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team has been selected to compete for the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship and will have the honor of hosting the first, second, and third rounds of competition. The appearance in the postseason event will be the 16th for the program, all coming under head coach Andrew Girard. The Tartans will host action on Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14 with five teams traveling to Pittsburgh.

The Tartans will be joined in Pittsburgh by Cairn University, Franciscan University, Hope College, Middlebury College, and North Central College.

Cairn (20-1) will face No. 40 Hope (18-7) with Franciscan (15-4) and North Central (21-5) squaring off on Thursday to start the tournament. The Tartans (15-6) will face the winner of Cairn and Hope on Friday while the winner of Franciscan and North Central will face fifth-ranked Middlebury (15-5) on Friday. 

The two Friday winners will play on Saturday for the chance to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida from May 23-29.

The Tartans' home tennis venue is located in the center of campus with six playing courts, a video scoreboard and individual court cameras for live streaming. Should play get moved indoors, the tournament will be played at Alpha Tennis and Fitness in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
