#11 Tartans Top #12 Case Western Reserve at ITA Indoor Championship

(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) – The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Sunday in Nicholasville, Kentucky with a 5-4 victory over University Athletic Association and 12th-ranked foe Case Western Reserve University. The win runs the Tartans dual match record to 8-3 while the Spartans are now 7-3.

Doubles Play:

  • Carnegie Mellon trailed 2-1 after doubles with its win coming at the top spot. The tandem of junior Danna Taylor and sophomore Crystal Zhou won 8-4.

Singles Play:

  • The Spartans took the first point in singles winning at the four spot before the Tartans rattled off three straight team points winning at three, six and two singles to take a 4-3 advantage.
  • The first Cardinal and Gray point came from Zhou who won 6-4, 6-3 at three.
  • A 6-4, 7-5 win by freshman Manuela Van Cotthem at six knotted the score before Taylor gave the Tartans the lead with a three-set (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) victory at two.
  • Case Western Reserve the made the score 4-all with a win a first singles.
  • The match came down to the fifth spot with sophomore Zoe Angell winning a three-set match for the Tartans. The sophomore dropped the first set 6-0 and then forced a third set with a 6-4 win in the second. She then won 7-5 in the third to preserve the win.

Next Up

  • The Tartans will head to Florida for spring break and return to the courts on Tuesday, March 7 with a 12:30 p.m. match against RPI.
