#11 Tartans Top #27 Kenyon and NC Wesleyan

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 11th in the nation, won a pair of contests on Thursday, March 9 during its spring trip in Orlando, Florida. The Tartans started the day with a 7-2 win against 27th-ranked Kenyon College and closed the evening with an 8-1 win against North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Tartans are now 12-3 for the season.

Inside the Results

  • The Tartans earned three doubles points against Kenyon with the number two pair of senior Bin Zheng and freshman Manuela Van Cotthem taking the third point with an 8-7 (7-0) win.
  • The Tartans won singles matches at the second through fifth spots against Kenyon with Van Cotthem earning match point at fourth singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win.
  • Junior Danna Taylor won her 11th singles match of the season and holds a 4-1 record at the second position for the year after a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) victory.
  • The Tartans held a 2-1 lead against N.C. Wesleyan following doubles play. The first-year pair of Anna Chow and Divya Venkatarama finished their match first with an 8-0 score at the third position.
  • The Tartans picked up a set of quick singles wins at the second and fourth positions after retirements by the N.C. Wesleyan players.
  • Chow secured the team victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win at sixth singles.
