#14 Tartans Open Play at UAA Championship With a 5-3 Setback to #17 WashU

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Thursday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, with a 5-3 setback to 17th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis. The Tartans moved to 17-6 overall while the Bears are now 3-6.

Inside the Results:

  • The Tartans number two pair of freshmen Manuela Van Cotthem and Divya Venkatarama knotted the score at 1-1 with an 8-6 victory.
  • A tiebreaker was forced at third doubles by sophomore Zoe Angell and freshman Anna Chow before dropping an 8-7 (3) match as the Cardinal and Gray trailed 2-1 heading into singles play.
  • Junior Danna Taylor claimed the first singles point winning 6-2, 6-2 in the second spot.
  • After WashU won for singles, sophomore Crystal Zhou tied the score at 3-all with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory at three.
  • The Bears then took the next two points to seal the win.

  • The Tartans will now play 31st-ranked Brandeis University in the consolation semifinals at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
