#14 Tartans Defeat #31 Brandeis at UAA Championship

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team played 31st-ranked Brandeis University in the consolation semifinal of the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Friday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The Tartans defeated the Judges 5-1 and are now 18-5 on the season while Brandeis moves to 9-10.

Inside the Results:

  • The Tartans top doubles tandem of Junior Danna Taylor and sophomore Crystal Zhou recorded the first point of the match with an 8-4 win.
  • Sophomore Zoe Angell and freshman Anna Chow gave the Tartans a 2-1 lead heading into singles play with an 8-6 victory in the third slot.
  • The Cardinal and Gray took the first poit in singles play when freshman Manuela Van Cotthem won 6-2, 6-2 at four.
  • Taylor then made the score 4-1, as she won 6-3, 6-0 at two singles.
  • The clinching point came at three singles when Zhou won 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

  • The Tartans will play 13th-ranked Case Western Reserve University in the fifth-place match at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22.
