Four Players Named to All-UAA Women’s Tennis Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis players were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches on Tuesday with recognition on the 2023 UAA Women's Tennis All-Association Team.

Sophomore Sarah Yang and junior Danna Taylor were named to the first team at first and second singles, respectively. Sophomore Crystal Zhou garnered second team accolades for third singles and also for first doubles with Taylor. At fourth singles, freshman Manuela Van Cotthem was named honorable mention.

Yang has a singles record of 21-7 including a 13-4 mark in the first position this year. She also played in the ITA Cup Division III National Singles Championship in the fall where she advanced to the consolation finals after posting a 2-1 record. Taylor compiled an overall mark of 18-5, including an 11-1 record at second singles for the Tartans. Both were selected as individuals for the NCAA Championships next week.

Taylor and Zhou will compete at the NCAA Doubles Championship next week, as the tandem has a 27-9 record. The duo won the ITA Southeast Doubles Regional Championship and then advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA Cup. They both have a combined 30 doubles wins this season which sets a school record for most doubles wins in a season by an individual player.

Zhou accumulated a record of 25-6 overall in singles play, including a 10-1 mark in the third position this year while winning all three of her matches at the UAA Championship. Van Cotthem has a mark of 24-8 in singles play with a 9-1 record at fourth singles.
