Tartan Duo Advances to Quarterfinals of NCAA Doubles Championship

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – Junior Danna Taylor and sophomore Crystal Zhou competed in the opening rounds of the 2023 NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships on Friday, May 19 in Orlando, Florida, at the USTA National Campus. The pair won their Round of 16 match and will continue play on Saturday.

Taylor started the day in the singles bracket in the Round of 32. She drew third-seeded Nika Vesely of Wesleyan University and fell 6-4, 6-4. She concludes her singles season with an 18-6 record.

In the afternoon, Taylor and Zhou, seeded fourth out of 16, topped Ruth Hill and Olivia Kim of Trinity University by a 6-1, 6-3 score to advance to the quarterfinals. They are the eighth pair to reach the quarterfinals and follow Lindy Cornwall and Bin Zheng who reached that round in 2021.

The pair march on to face Kamila Wong and Jay Xiao of Johns Hopkins University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The two combos have played each other this year with the Tartan duo winning 8-7 (7-0) in the quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regional.
