Oleson Leads Tartans at Day One of UAA Championships
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team hosted day one of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships Saturday, April 28 at Gesling Stadium. After Saturday's events the Tartans are currently in fifth-place after six scored events with 12 points.
Sophomore Samantha Oleson (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 37.30 meters. Fellow sophomore Jane Kim (Clifton, Va./Centreville) picked up three team points for the Tartans, as she finished sixth in the hammer with a career-best throw of 34.88 meters
The Tartans 4x800 relay team also scored three team points with a sixth place showing. The team of freshman Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), sophomore Catherine Paquette (Bethel, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas), freshman Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and junior Eva Humphrey (Asheville, N.C.) crossed the finish line with a time of 10:14.54.
The championships resume Sunday at 9:00 a.m. with the men's javelin followed by the women's triple jump, men's high jump and women's discus throw at 10:00 a.m. The first track event is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.
