Women’s Track and Field Shines in CMU Quad Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team continued to rake-in first place finishes as they competed in the CMU Quad Meet on Saturday afternoon. The Tartans placed second as a team with 163 points as Westminster won the Quad scoring 175 points.

Senior Jacqueline Guevel led the Tartans with a pair of first-place finishes.  In the 100-meter hurdles, Guevel crossed the finish line with a time of 16.13.  Later in the afternoon, Guevel again earned a title in the 400-meter hurdles when she finished the race in 1:04.75. 

In the 800-meter run, sophomore Haley Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) took second-place with a time of 2:29.86.

The Tartans also took first-place in the 3,000 meter run.  Sophomore Elizabeth Snyder (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) crossed the finish line with a time of 10:44.33.

The women compiled a one, two finish in the hammer throw.  Seniors Samanthan Oleson (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and Colette Tano (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) had tosses of 39.52 meters and 39.40 meters, respectively.

Junior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) won the long jump and took second-place in the shot put.  With a leap of 4.84 meters, Spalding nudged ahead of the competitors in the long jump.  To finish in second-place in the shot put, Spalding tossed 10.74 meters.

In the high jump, freshman Rebecca Fortner added another second-place finish on the season as she jumped 1.50 meters.

The Tartans will be competing at different events next weekend April 12.  Part of the team will be travelling to the Bucknell University Distance Carnival and the other members of the squad will compete in the Bennie Benson Memorial Invitational at Robert Morris University.
