Karabin, Lindsey Named CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Juniors Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) and Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as Google Cloud Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District selections. Karabin receives her first award while Lindsey is a repeat selection and also a 2018 third-team CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America selection.

Both were selected to the District 4 team, comprised of all the Division III schools in Pennsylvania, and move on to the national ballot for Google Cloud Academic All-America consideration. To be eligible for the award, athletes must be starters or significant reserves in at least their sophomore season and carry a minimum GPA of 3.30.

Karabin and Lindsey are each 4.0 students in the College of Engineering. Karabin's concentration is in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering. She is a member of Pi Tau Sigma and interned at Naval Nuclear Laboratories as a technical intern in 2018. As a team captain, Karabin also holds leadership roles on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) where she serves as the vice president and was secretary in the past. The junior is the lead organizer of SAAC Field Day and has also volunteered at Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home.

In competition, Karabin tied the school record in the outdoor pole vault in 2018 and earned All-America honors by finishing eighth in the pole vault at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She is a five-time All-Region recipient in the pole vault and finished third in the same event at the UAA Indoor Championships in 2018.

Lindsey is a two-time participant at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, helping the Tartans to back-to-back appearances in the national meet. This season, Lindsey and the Tartans finished 31st at the meet after earning a 24th-place finish in 2017. Lindsey also competes on the indoor and outdoor track and field teams where she leads the team in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. 

Lindsey's academic concentration is in materials science and engineering and biomedical engineering. She is a member of Global Medical Brigades and spent her 2018 spring break in Nicaragua building structures and teaching communities healthy practices. Lindsey is a member of Plaidvocates, a peer health group in the athletics department, and was awarded the GE Women's Networking Scholarship twice and the Andrew Carnegie Scholars Legacy Scholarship three times. The junior has spent two summers as a R&D Packaging Intern at Procter and Gamble with Tide and Gillette and has been a research intern at Carnegie Mellon since January.
