Tartans Get Set for UAA Championships with Races at Bucknell and Mount Union
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) — The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at both the Bucknell Tune Up hosted by Bucknell University and the Mount Union Last Chance Meet hosted by Mount Union College this weekend. Five women competed in middle distance events at the Bucknell Tune up against Division I, II & III runners. The women also competed against a number of Division III athletes at the Mount Union Last Chance Meet.
Competing at the Bucknell Tune-Up, senior Kate Reilly (Scranton Prep, Scranton Pa.) placed third in the mile run in a time of 5:08, while graduate student Wade Lacey (Albany, N.Y. / The Albany Academies) placed fifth in a time of 5:14. Sophomore Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont. / The Taft School) placed eighth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:20.
At the Mount Union Last Chance Meet, senior Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) placed second in the pole vault clearing 3.48 meters. Freshman Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) placed second in the high jump clearing 1.55 meters.
Freshman Serena Li (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) placed fourth in the long jump clearing 5.06 meters for a season and team best. In the mile run, senior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) took third in a time of 5:26 and freshman Joyce Zhang placed fifth in a time of 5:34.
Senior Leah Kendrick (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 28.12. Kendrick also placed second in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.31. Freshman Jasmine Fahrenkrug (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) placed sixth in the 400-meter run in 1:04 while freshman Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ambridge) won the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.05.
Freshman Kavya Tummalapalli (Plainsboro, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro High School) won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:27 and fellow freshman Mona Yuan (Sayreville, N.J. / Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences) placed fifth in a time of 2:28.
The Tartans will compete next at the UAA Championships hosted by New York University at the Armory in New York City on Saturday, February 29.
