Tartans DMR Breaks School Record at Opening Day of UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships
(NEW YORK, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team competed at the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships on Saturday hosted by NYU at the Armory in New York City. After the first day of competition, the Tartans are in fifth-place with 16 points. The University of Chicago leads with 69.33 points.
The distance medley relay team of senior Wade Lacey (Albany, N.Y. / The Albany Academies), freshman Carmen Andrade (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico / Ramey), senior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) and senior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) broke the school record with a time of 12:10.81 which placed them third.
In the 5,000-meter run, senior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) ran to a season-best time of 18:10.45 and placed eighth.
The field events saw the Tartans score points in two events. Senior Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) placed fourth in the pole vault clearing 3.53 meters while junior Ally Tully (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) took fifth in the weight throw with a career-best toss of 13.64 meters.
The UAA Indoor Track and Field competition will resume Sunday, March 1 at 9:30 a.m.
