Karabin and Reilly Receive Invites to NCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Seniors Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) and Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team have received an invite to the NCAA Women's Track and Field Championships to be held March 13-14 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with Guilford College serving as the official host. Karabin will compete in the pole vault with Reilly running the mile.

Karabin qualified for the championships following her indoor career-best mark of 3.72 meters at the Battle for the Obelisk versus Case Western Reserve University in January.

Reilly broke the school record in the mile run after winning the race at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 5:02.72. Her time was converted to 5:05.72 because of running on a bank track at UAA's and this year's championships are on a flat track.

It marks the first time in program history that two women will be competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Karabin becomes the third women's field participant to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the history of the program while Reilly is the sixth women's track participant. The 2017 was the last time the Tartans had a competitor when Grace Yee also competed in the pole vault.

The preliminaries of the mile are set for 2:20 p.m. on Friday, March 13 with the finals to be run on Saturday, March 14 at 2:40 p.m. The pole vault preliminaries are set for Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the finals to follow.
