(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Valerie Reiling (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle Regional) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Team, as announced by the association. Reiling is one of ten athletes selected to the District 4 team and one of two with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA). To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 that is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Reiling will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition.

Reiling is a school record holder in the 4x400-meter relay and was an All-Region honoree in 2018 in the 4x400-meter relay for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Reiling deferred competition this spring, but will return to the track in 2022 for the Tartans as a graduate student.

A mechanical engineering major, Reiling graduated in May with a 4.0 GPA, the highest GPA of female graduating athletes and the highest GPA of the mechanical engineering graduating class earning her the Bennett Award. Reiling is a member of Pi Tau Sigma and earned the honor of Most Innovative Mechanical Engineering capstone design project. With plans to return to CMU for her master's degree in engineering and public policy, Reiling is currently working on a research project with CMU and NASA Aeronautics Research Institute. Previously, Reiling was a perception and autonomy intern for Draper and a supply chain intern for GE Aviation.
