Cornwall Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

July 28, 2022

Recent graduate Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif./Poway) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis and women's track and field teams has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Cornwall will receive a one-time, nonrenewable grant of $10,000 to be used for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at a university or professional school. Cornwall will continue her educational pursuits at Carnegie Mellon, as she is enrolled in the master's program for mechanical engineering.

Women’s Track and Field Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2022 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list for the 26th consecutive year. A total of 150 women's teams earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better for the 2020-21 academic year.

Outdoor Track and Field Garners 39 USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Honors

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s and women’s track and field teams had 39 Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors awarded to its athletes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2022 outdoor track and field season. Twenty-eight represent the men while 11 represent the women with eight men and two women receiving multiple honors.

Assistant Coach Jose Rivera of the Carnegie Mellon University women's outdoor track and field teams was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with outstanding regional recognition. The eighth-year coach, who works primarily with the sprinters and hurdlers, was named Mid-Atlantic Assistant Coach of the Year for the women.

At the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational on March 25, Kendra Noneman, a Ph.D. student in the Program in Neural Computation, approached the throwing circle with her dance partner, "Stanley," an 8.82-pound metal ball attached to a steel wire. She named it after Stanley Kirk Burrell, better known as the rapper, MC Hammer.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team had three athletes earn selection to the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships set to be held from May 26 through May 28 at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. This marks the most individual entries to be selected for the same championship in school history for the Tartans.
