Two School Records Broke at All-Atlantic Regional Indoor Championships

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team competed at the All-Atlantic Regional Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5, hosted by Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.

Junior Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) won the pentathlon with 3,366 points while claiming the top spot in two events and second in another. The junior won the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.62 meters and then took first in the long jump with a career-best mark of 5.21 meters. Her score currently ranks eighth nationally. Barre placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.23. Her points scored are the most by a Tartan in the pentathlon.

Katie Monahan (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) broke the 17-year-old school record in the shot put with a toss of 12.21 meters to place fourth overall. Her marked surpasses Becky Metler's mark of 11.95 meters set in 2005.

Seniors Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) and Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont./ The Taft School) both recorded career-best times on Saturday. Seballos in the mile run when she crossed in 5:06.61 to place third and Jacobs in the 800-meter run when she finished sixth in 2:18.56.

The Tartans will now wait to see the qualifying lists for the NCAA Indoor Championships at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12. The list will be announced late Sunday night.
