Monahan and Noneman Break School Records at Outdoor Season Opener

(LEXINGTON, VA.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team opened the outdoor season at Foster Stadium on Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Virginia, at the Washington and Lee Track and Field Carnival hosted by Washington and Lee University. The women established two school records throughout the meet.

The first school record came on Friday when Freshman Katie Monahan (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley), in her first outdoor meet of her collegiate career placed third in the shot put with a throw of 11.97 meters. The throw topped Becky Metler's record of 11.94 meters set in 2005. Then on Saturday, graduate student Kendra Noneman (Eagle, Idaho / Eagle) won the hammer throw, as she shattered the school record with a throw of 55.42 meters. The previous school record throw was 47.27 meters by Kiersten Chuc in 2017.

Freshman Kayla Rountree (New Haven, Conn. / James Hillhouse) placed second in the javelin with a mark of 31.65 meters.

Sophomore Isabella Rhee (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) posted a personal-best time in the 400-meter run of 59.22 to place second. Rhee, sophomore Emily Lannen (Reston, Va. / South Lakes), junior Kavya Tummalapalli (Plainsboro, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro High School) and sophomore Caitlin Kolb (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Vernon Hills) took third in the 4x400-meter relay after crossing in 4:09.25.

Next up for the Tartans is their home invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26. Events kickoff on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
