Rivera Named Women’s Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year

(NEW ORLEANS, La.) – Assistant Coach Jose Rivera of the Carnegie Mellon University women's outdoor track and field teams was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with outstanding regional recognition. The eighth-year coach, who works primarily with the sprinters and hurdlers, was named Mid-Atlantic Assistant Coach of the Year for the women.

Rivera has coached the region's top 100-meter and 200-meter runner in junior Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ambridge), who ranks fifth and third in the nation, respectively. He has three more Tartans ranked in the top-10 in Mid-Atlantic Region in the sprints and hurdles.

Giordani, along with 11 other Tartans in 15 events, will compete this weekend at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
