Tartans Compete at Westminster Invitational and Susquehanna Multi

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the Westminster Invitational on Saturday with senior Liz Barre competing in the heptathlon at the Susquehanna Multi on Thursday and Friday.

Barre's Performance at Susquehanna:

  • Barre won the heptathlon with a school record 5,017 points which breaks her own record of 4,545 set last season.
  • The senior also set school records in the high jump and long jump while placing first in both events. She cleared the bar at an outdoor school record height of 1.70 meters and recorded a jump of 5.53 meters in the long jump. Barre topped both her previous outdoor school record marks, which were 1.68 meters in the high jump set last season and 5.52 meters in the long jump set two weeks ago at the CMU Invitational.
  • Barre also won the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 25.47. She took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.53, tossed the element 10.37 meters to place second in the shot put and tossed the javelin a career-best 29.85 meters to take second.

Top Performances at Westminster:

  • Junior Isabella Rhee crossed first in the 400-meter race with a time of 59.95.
  • Sophomore Alyssa Hoffman won the 5,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 18:02.04 with classmate Lauryn McKenna taking third as she crossed in personal-best 18:20.40.
  • Senior Samantha Giordani won the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. She crossed the finish line in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 12.57 and crossed in 25.64 in the 200-meter.
  • Seniors Kavya Tummalapalli and Mona Yuan placed second and third in the 800-meter run. Tummalapalli posted a personal-best time of 2:18.16 and Yuan 2:19.70.
  • In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Norah Czajka crossed third in 12:24.46.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of Rhee, junior Emily Lannen, Yuan and Tummalapalli closed the running events with a top finish crossing 4:05.81.
