Tartans Compete at 13th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational

(BEREA, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team competed at the 13th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College Friday and Saturday, September 9-10.The Tartans went 1-3 over the weekend moving their overall record to 4-5.
    
On Friday, Carnegie Mellon opened the tournament with a 3-1 setback to the host Yellow Jackets (25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18) before winning a five-set match to Denison 3-2 (24-26, 25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 15-5).  The Tartans were led by sophomore Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) and freshman Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic)  who had a combined 27 and 21 kills, respectively. Sophomore Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) tallied 44 assists in the two matches and freshman Taylor Bell (Shelby Twp., Mich./Detroit Country Day) added 13 assists against Denison.  The Tartans as a team combined for nine service aces in the win.

Defensively, senior Emily Baddock (Houston, Texas/Dulles) tallied 24 digs in the two matches. Sophomore Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) recorded a team-high 14 digs in the Tartans victory over Denison. Parsa totaled 10 blocks on the night as sophomore Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) tallied four block solos and two block assists against Denison.

Saturday, the Tartans dropped a pair of matches in straight sets.  The first coming to Otterbein, 25-12, 25-20, 25-21, and the second to Wooster, 25-20, 25-15, 25-21.  Sophomore Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) led the way with 10 kills for the Tartans against Wooster while Celentano added nine kills along with five total blocks, two solo. Senior Madeline Rosnick (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury) recorded 13 kills in the two matches while Wright combined for 32 assists.  

The Tartans will travel to St. Vincent College, Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m.
