Tartans Finish UAA Round Robin with Two Wins

(WALTHAM, Mass.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team finished University Athletic Association (UAA) round robin action on Sunday, October 16 on the campus of Brandeis University. The 19th-ranked Tartans topped Case Western Reserve University and the University of Rochester by 3-0 scores to move to 19-5 overall and 4-3 in UAA play.

In the first match of the day, the Tartans topped Case Western Reserve with set scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-21. Three players recorded nine kills to lead the offense with senior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) hitting .533. Senior Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) picked up 34 assists. The Tartans blocked eight attack attempts by the Spartans with junior Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) recording one block solo and four block assists. Senior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) led with 16 digs while sophomore Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) had 14 digs.

Against Rochester, the Tartans won each set by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-17. Gibbons led with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .647 while Newton collected another 23 assists.

The Tartans will continue the season at home on Friday, October 21 when they host Messiah College at 8:00 p.m.
