Gibbons Named UAA Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University volleyball senior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Volleyball Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, October 18. Gibbons led the attack for the Tartans who finished the UAA Round Robin #2 with a 3-1 record.

In the second match of the weekend at Brandeis University, Gibbons recorded her 1,000th career kill against fifth-ranked Emory University. Gibbons hit .470 for the week and tallied 39 kills, needing 17 to reach the milestone. On Sunday, Gibbons hit .533 and .647 with nine and 13 kills in 3-0 victories against Case Western Reserve University and the University of Rochester.

The 19th-ranked Tartans will next play three matches at home beginning with an 8:00 p.m. match on Friday, October 21 against Messiah College.
