(ALLENTOWN, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened play at the Muhlenberg College Quad with a five-set win over the host Mules. The Tartans won by the scores of 24-26, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14 to move to 4-5 on the season. Muhlenberg is now 8-2.
Multiple career highs were accomplished on Friday night including 19 kills by senior Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan), 17 from junior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and 14 from sophomore Diana Balta (Media, Pa./Penncrest). Junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) tabbed her first career 50-assist match, as she finished with 55.
Junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) led the defense with a career-best 45 digs. It marked her third career 40-dig contest. So-Holloway recorded a season-best 20 digs while Balta had 16 and senior Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas/Allen) ended with 11.
Carnegie Mellon returns to the court Saturday with matches against SUNNY Cortland and Franklin & Marshall College beginning at 12:00 p.m.
