(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team completed University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Sunday afternoon and split a pair of matches at home. The Tartans began play on Sunday with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 19-25, 25-18) over Case Western Reserve University before dropping a four-set match to eighth-ranked University of Chicago be the scores of 26-24, 28-26, 15-25, 25-19. The Tartans are now 16-7 for the year and 5-2 in UAA play.
In the win over the Spartans, the Tartans hit .306 while senior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downington STEM Academy) recorded a team-best 20 kills and hit .362. Senior Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) tabbed 16 kills and hit .343. Junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) handed out 54 assists while junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) led with 23 digs. So-Holloway also recorded 10 digs along with Mueller.
Against Chicago, Mueller led with 17 kills. Junior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) hit .500 with 16 kills and So-Holloway picked up 49 assists. Ye once again led with 26 digs and So-Holloway and Mueller recorded double-digit digs with 20 and 11, respectively. Yew and senior Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas / Allen) each had three service aces in the setback.
Carnegie Mellon returns to action on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. match against Alma College.
