Tartans Take Care of Business Against #19 Ithaca

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team handed the 19th-ranked Bombers of Ithaca College a 3-1 setback on Friday night, as the Tartans celebrated the senior class prior to the contest. The home win for the Tartans improves their overall record to 20-8 while the Bombers are now 18-6. It marks the sixth straight season that the Cardinal and Gray have reached the 20-win plateau.

Carnegie Mellon opened the match with a 25-16 win in the first set before dropping the second set 25-20. The Tartans rallied from a 19-15 deficit in the third set to win 25-22. The home team then controlled set four after scoring the first seven points and went for the 25-15 win.

Senior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) led with 14 kills while classmate Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) added 12. Freshman Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y./Victor) finished with 10 kills. Junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) handed out 41 assists and led with three service aces. The Tartans totaled 11 aces on the night with Mueller, senior Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas/Allen) and junior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) each recording two.

Junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) led the defense with 22 digs. So-Holloway had 14 digs, sophomore Julia Kim (Centreville, Va./Chantilly) chipped in with 13 and Mueller totaled 11. At the net, Foose had five block assists and Stewart had four. Senior Lizzy Thrasher (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) along with Mueller each had three block assists.

Carnegie Mellon will be back on the court Saturday, October 27 when the entertain the College of Brockport at 11:00 a.m.
