The 2019 Carnegie Mellon University volleyball program has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for its performance in the classroom by being named a recipient of the AVCA Team Academic Award. This marks the Cardinal and Gray’s fourth consecutive season earning the award.

It was a memorable fall for the Carnegie Mellon Athletics Program, as five of six fall teams advanced to postseason play, the basketball and swimming and diving teams got off to great starts, and the women’s golf team earned a number one national ranking. Four teams competed in the NCAA postseason, including the women’s soccer team’s run to the national semifinals, and the Tartans once again finished the fall 16th in the Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings. On top of the competitive success, 104 student-athletes achieved 4.0 grade-point averages (GPA) and more than 60 percent of the student-athletes earned a 3.50 GPA or better.

Senior middle blocker Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and senior libero Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team were named Third Team All-America by the American Vol-leyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Joining the pair is senior setter Maia So-Holloway (Oak-land, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) as an All-America Honorable Mention honorees from the AVCA.

The 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship at Johns Hopkins University against the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology Friday. The Tartans fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-11) to the Ducks.

Senior libero Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral), senior middle blocker Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and senior setter Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) of the 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team were selected to the Mid-Atlantic Region team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Thursday. Sophomore opposite Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) joins the three seniors on the squad as an honorable mention honoree.

Four Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team when the squads were announced Wednesday. Senior libero Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) was named to the first team while senior middle blocker Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and sophomore opposite Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) were named to the second team. Senior middle blocker Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) garnered honorable mention honors. This marks the fourth straight year that at least four Tartans were named to the All-UAA squad.

For the fourth straight season, the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team received an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship on Monday afternoon under the direction of first-year head coach Anne Bock. This marks the program's seventh overall appearance with the team advancing to the regional final a year ago.

Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team hosted Hiram College and Southwestern (TX) University on Friday night on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium. The Tartans opened the day with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-12) decision over Hiram before topping Southwestern 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 26-24) in the nightcap. Carnegie Mellon now has an overall record of 19-5.

After dropping the first two sets, the Tartans rattled off three straight set win to leave with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-27, 19-25, 21-25, 15-9) decision and improve to 17-5 overall.

The 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) action at Case Western Reserve University with two matches on Sunday in the final Round Robin of the season and split a pair of matches. The Tartans started play Sunday with a 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-17, 26-24) win over New York University, before dropping a 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-15) contest to Washington University in St. Louis. The Tartans are now 16-5 overall and 4-3 in UAA play.
