Four Tartans Receive AVCA All-Region Recognition

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – Senior libero Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral), senior middle blocker Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and senior setter Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) of the 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team were selected to the Mid-Atlantic Region team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Thursday. Sophomore opposite Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) joins the three seniors on the squad as an honorable mention honoree.

It marks the third straight season that Yew and So-Holloway have been honored by the AVCA while it is the second straight season for Foose. For Beaudoin, this is her first appearance.

Yew, a first team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree, leads the UAA with 586 digs and 5.53 digs per game. Her 32 service aces ranks fourth on the team. She currently ranks second on the school's all-time digs list with 2,304 and needs 53 more to become the program's all-time leader. The senior has recorded double-digit digs in 28 of 29 matches played this season, including a season-high 36 against SUNY-Geneseo.

Foose was named to the All-UAA second team and leads the team and ranks second in the UAA with a .361 hitting percentage. The senior also is tops on the team with 236 kills, 2.25 kills per set, 76 block assists, and 89 total blocks. She has recorded double-digit kills in 11 matches this season including a season-best 15 at Brandeis.

So-Holloway leads the team and ranks fifth in the UAA with 624 assists after the Tartans changed to a 6-2 offense this season. Her 40 service aces are second on the Tartans and ranks sixth best in the Association. The senior recorded a season-best 36 assists against SUNY-Geneseo and tabbed a season-high five service aces against Case Western Reserve.

Beaudoin, was an All-UAA second team honoree and ranks second on the team with 222 kills, 2.18 kills per game, and a .276 hitting percentage. The sophomore has totaled 70 blocks and 59 block assists, which ranks third best on the Tartans. She has recorded seven double-digit kill matches with three coming in UAA play and a career-best 16 against regionally ranked SUNY-Geneseo.

Carnegie Mellon will play Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday, November 15 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.
