Tartans Claim Fifth Consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award

The 2020 Carnegie Mellon University volleyball program has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the United States Marine Corps (USMC) for its performance in the classroom by being named a recipient of the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award. This marks the Cardinal and Gray's fifth consecutive season earning the award.

Balta, Beaudoin Named CoSIDA Academic All-District for Women’s Volleyball

Carnegie Mellon University senior Diana Balta (Media, Pa. / Penncrest) and junior Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women’s Volleyball Team, as announced by the association. The pair join nine others honored on the District 4 team and are the first Carnegie Mellon volleyball players to earn the distinction since 2009. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Tartans Celebrate Seniors With 3-0 Win Over Penn State Behrend

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team celebrated seniors Diana Balta (Media, Pa. / Penncrest) and Julia Kim (Centreville, Va. / Chantilly) prior to its 3-0 win over the visiting Lions of Penn State Behrend on Sunday. The Tartans closed the season winning 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16.

The Carnegie Mellon volleyball team traveled north to Erie, Pennsylvania, to play the ninth-ranked team in Division II Gannon University on Saturday afternoon. Gannon won 3-1 by the scores 25-14, 25-8, 23-25, 25-16. The Tartans are now 3-1 while the Knights remain perfect on the season at 16-0. Carnegie Mellon was just the fifth opponent that forced a fourth set against Gannon this season.

Season Best 42 Kills Leads Tartans Past Bethany, 3-0

March 28, 2021

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team put down a season-best 42 kills on its way to a 3-0 victory at Bethany College on Sunday, March 28. The Tarans won by set scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-22 to move to 3-0 for the season.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team hosted the Terriers of Hiram College on Saturday afternoon and walked away with a 3-0 victory. The Tartans won by the scores of 25-14, 25-19, 25-12 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Although the traditional fall and winter seasons haven’t been on display for Carnegie Mellon University this year, the excellence of the university’s student-athletes is still impacting the entire community. Each winter for the past six years, the CMU Department of Athletics has celebrated its top academic athletes at the Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Celebration during finals week. And while an in-person celebration is on hold for now, the highest-performing junior and senior student-athletes in each undergraduate college and on each team are still being recognized for their academic performance.

Athletics Celebrates Fall Senior Student-Athletes

Despite not being able to compete this semester, the Carnegie Mellon University Athletics Department paused to celebrate its seniors on Saturday, October 17, as the program recognized the career accomplishments of fall senior student-athletes. Forty-six seniors were recognized from men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball. The athletics department hosted a celebration in conjunction with the university’s 2020 Virtual Homecoming.
