Tartans Claim Sixth Consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award

The 2021 Carnegie Mellon University volleyball program has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the United States Marine Corps (USMC) for its performance in the classroom by being named a recipient of the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award. This marks the Cardinal and Gray's sixth consecutive season earning the award.

Beaudoin Honored as CoSIDA Academic All-American

Carnegie Mellon University volleyball senior Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) was recognized as a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American after landing a spot on the all-district team two years in a row. Beaudoin was named to the second team and is one of 22 total honorees.

Carnegie Mellon University senior Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women’s Volleyball Team for the second straight season when the association made the announcement today. Beaudoin is one of eight honored on the District 4 team. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Five Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team when the squads were announced Wednesday. Senior opposite Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills), junior setter Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) and sophomore middle blocker Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) were named to the second team while senior outside hitter Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) and freshman libero Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) garnered honorable mention honors.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team finished in fourth-place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 25-27, 27-25) setback to 20th-ranked University of Chicago. The 2021 Championship was held at Case Western Reserve University.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team won its opening match of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament against Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) before falling in the semifinal match to 11th-ranked New York University (NYU) on Friday night in Cleveland, Ohio. The Tartans are now 14-13 overall and will play in the third-place match on Saturday morning.

Junior setter Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week following her performance over the weekend. Yan helped the Tartans to a 2-1 showing the Tartans home quad over the weekend.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team closed out its home slate with a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) against SUNY Geneseo and a 3-0 loss to Wittenberg University who was receiving votes in the latest AVCA Division III poll. The Tartans are now 13-12 for the year.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened its home quad invite on Friday against the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington and won 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-23). The Tartans are now 12-11 overall while the Eagles move to 16-11.

The Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the second day of the 2021 Wid Guisler Invitational on Saturday hosted by Juniata College. The Tartans defeated Wesleyan University 3-2 (18-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-12) to start play Saturday and then lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-18) to 10th-ranked Juniata. The Tartans are now 11-11 overall.

The Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team opened play at the 2021 Wid Guisler Invitational on Friday hosted by Juniata College. The Tartans took down York (Pa.) College 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-21) to even their record at 10-10 while York is now 14-8.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) play at Emory University with its final two association matches Sunday afternoon. The Tartans started play with a 3-2 (22-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-17, 15-8) victory over 10th-ranked NYU, before dropping a 3-2 (25-18, 26-24, 18-25, 18-25, 15-11) match to Washington University in St. Louis. The Tartans are now 9-10 overall and 4-3 in UAA play.

The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team traveled to Johns Hopkins University for a pair of matches against Salisbury University and the top-ranked hosts on Friday, October 8. The Tartans defeated Salisbury, 3-1 before falling 3-0 to the Blue Jays. The Tartans are now 8-9 for the year.

The Tartans are now 7-8 overall and 3-2 in UAA play.
