Tartans Split in Action at Johns Hopkins

(BALTIMORE, Md.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team traveled to Johns Hopkins University for a pair of matches against Salisbury University and the top-ranked hosts on Friday, October 8. The Tartans defeated Salisbury, 3-1 before falling 3-0 to the Blue Jays. The Tartans are now 8-9 for the year.

Against Salisbury, the Tartans hit .280 as a team with three players tallying double-digit kills with junior Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas / Coppell) picking up 45 assists. Senior Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) led with 19 kills with senior Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) hitting down 12 kills and senior Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) had 10 kills while accumulating a .429 hitting percentage.

Yan and Cao each had 17 digs to lead the team with sophomore Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) leading the team at the net with four block assists and one block solo.

Cao led the Tartans against Johns Hopkins with nine kills while Yan and junior Olivia Devereux (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Marymount) each had five kills. Yan hit .500 and also had 25 assists. Freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) led with nine digs while Cao had seven digs.

The Tartans will next head to Atlanta, Georgia, for the third UAA round robin to face 10th-ranked New York University and 23-rd ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, October 17.
