Tartans Celebrate Seniors in Final Home Matches

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team closed out its home slate with a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) against SUNY Geneseo and a 3-0 loss to Wittenberg University who was receiving votes in the latest AVCA Division III poll. The Tartans are now 13-12 for the year.

Against Geneseo, the Tartans hit .300 with 45 kills in 120 total attacks. Senior Erin Westberg (Cary, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) led with 10 kills while sophomore Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) had eight kills. Senior Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) hit .636 for the match with seven kills and no errors.

Beaudoin recorded her 500th kill in the match in just 66 matches played for her career.

Junior Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas / Coppell) picked up 26 assists in the win to go with 11 digs. Freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) led with 19 digs while Reichard collected 13 digs.

The Tartans started strong against Wittenberg but after falling 28-26 in the first set, the Tartans couldn't recover and the Tigers won the next two sets by 25-22 and 25-20 scores.

Beaudoin led the offense with nine kills while senior Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) had eight kills. Yan picked up another 29 assists and 10 digs. Chen led the defense with 15 digs while sophomore Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) had five block assists and Beaudoin had four block assists.

The Tartans will next head to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, and start the tournament against Washington University in St. Louis at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5.
