(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday afternoon at Washington University in St. Louis. The day started with a 3-0 win over Brandeis University 3-0 before dropping a 3-1 decision to 20th-ranked WashU.

  • The Tartans took the first set 25-23 before winning set two 25-22 and then the third by the score of 25-23.
  • Junior Jane Dean led the attack for the Tartans with nine kills while classmate Laura Reichard totaled seven.
  • Senior Stella Yan handed out 30 assists.
  • Sophomore Abby Chen was the loan Tartan with double-digit digs as she finished with 13.
  • Chen recorded a team-best three service aces with Reichard and junior Mindee Lai each having two.

  • The first set favored WashU 25-23 with the host Bears taking the second set 25-20.
  • The Tartans forced a fourth set with a 25-19 set-three victory.
  • The Tartans started the fourth set with a 3-0 lead before the Bears led 13-8.
  • WashU later led 23-15 and 24-18 before the Tartans pushed the score to 24-21 to force WashU into a timeout before a kill by Jasmine Sells (18 total kills) closed the match.
  • The Tartans collected seven service aces with Chen, Yan and senior Olivia Devereux each having two.
  • Schlemmer led the Tartans with 18 kills while Reichard had 15.
  • Yan dished out 43 assists.
  • Isabella Sierra led the Tartans with five block assists and one block solo.
  • Schlemmer assisted at the net with four block assists.
  • Four Tartans had double-digit digs with Schlemmer leading with 15, Chen with 14, Reichard with 13 and Yan with 10.
