(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – After a one-year hiatus, the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team is returning to the postseason after receiving an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship. The Tartans are making their second appearance in the national tournament under the direction of four-year head coach Anne Bock, and the eighth overall appearance in program history.

The Tartans, who finished with an overall record of 20-8, were receiving votes in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Poll. The Cardinal and Gray played six nationally ranked teams this year, topping sixth-ranked Emory University by a 3-2 score at home in October. The Tartans finished fourth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship tournament over the weekend which featured three teams in the top 10 with themselves and two others receiving votes in the latest national rankings.

Carnegie Mellon will travel to Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky for an eight-team regional that includes UAA counterpart, Emory University. The Tartans will open the tournament against Southern Virginia University (27-7), winners of the USA South Conference for the second consecutive year, on Thursday, November 10 at a time to be announced.

Should the Tartans advance, they'll face the winner of 10th-ranked Berry (23-4) and Covenant (21-11) on Friday, November 11. Transylvania (25-5), ranked 18th, will play Randolph-Macon College (23-6) in the opening round with the winner facing the winner of sixth-ranked Emory (21-6) and Bethany (17-12). The second-round winners will play on Saturday, November 12.

The city of Pittsburgh is hosting the final eight regional winners for the NCAA Championship at UPMC Cooper Field House at Duquesne University hosted by Saint Vincent College from November 16-19 with the quarterfinals set for Wednesday, November 16.
