Yan Named First Team All-UAA, Three Others Honored

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior setter Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) when the squads were announced Friday. Joining Yan as honorable mention honorees were junior middle blocker Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier), sophomore libero Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) and freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Schlemmer (Centerville, Ohio / Archbishop Alter).

This marks Yan's second All-UAA honor as she was named to the second team a year ago. Yan led the Tartans with 996 assists which ranked second in the UAA while averaging 9.22 assists per set which ranked third in the association during the regular season. The senior recorded a career-best 60 assists against Thiel College and handed out 50 or more assists in three contests this season. She ended the regular season with 2,299 for her career and ranks seventh all-time in program history. Yan also ranked second on the team with 39 service aces and third on the Tartans with 335 digs. Her 39 aces ranked seventh best in the UAA.

Dean led the team for the second straight season with 54 total blocks and 40 block assists while ranking second with 14 solo. Her 14 solo blocks ranked seventh in the UAA. Dean ranked third on the team with 202 kills and had eight matches this season with double-digit kills.

Chen had 468 digs which led the Tartans along with her 4.33 digs per set which both ranked fourth in the UAA. Her 44 service aces were tops on the team and ranked fifth in the UAA. In 25-of 28 matches played, Chen tabbed double-digit digs, with a career-high 30 coming on two occasions. The sophomore also tied her career-best with five service aces twice.

Schlemmer led the team with 255 kills and 2.38 kills per set. She had double-digit kills in 12 matches this season, including a high of 20 against Case Western Reserve. She ended the regular season with 270 digs, ranking fourth on the Cardinal and Gray, and had a season-high 23 two different times.
