Yan Named Academic All-America

(AUSTIN, Texas) – The Carnegie Mellon University Athletics Program collected another fall accolade on Wednesday, as volleyball senior setter Stella Yan was named to the 2022 Academic All-America volleyball first team, selected by the College Sports Communicators. Yan, who is one of 22 student-athletes across Division III to appear on the list for volleyball, became the sixth Tartan this fall to be honored at the highest level for their academic and athletic success.

This prestigious award for Yan marks the third time a Carnegie Mellon volleyball player has earned Academic All-America recognition and first to be named to the top team. Last year, Vivian Beaudoin was selected to the second team and Stephanie Szobota was named to the third team in 1999.

Yan is an information systems major with a 3.97 GPA and was a First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection and a Second Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) honoree. She led the Tartans with 1,043 assists, which ranked second in the UAA. She averaged 9.15 assists per set, which ranked third in the Association during the regular season. The senior recorded a career-best 60 assists against Thiel College and handed out 50 or more assists in three contests this season. She ended the regular season with 2,346 assists for her career and ranks seventh all-time in program history. Yan also ranked second on the team with 42 service aces and was third on the Tartans with 352 digs. Her 42 aces ranked seventh-best in the UAA.

Off the court, she was a digital project manager intern for Citibank during the summer of 2022 and a database programming intern with Merck during the summer of 2021. She also has conducted human computer interaction research at Carnegie Mellon. Yan is a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, serving as Vice President of Community Relations. She was also part of the Strong Women Strong Girls organization. Upon graduation, Yan has received an offer from Netflix to work as a Software Engineer.
