Women Finish Third at Annual Home Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross-country team placed third at its home Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational in Shenley Park this Saturday. The weather was unseasonably warm as the women ran to a third-place finish on the 5k course behind California University of Pennsylvania and Point Park University.

"As a team I think we have more in us," said sophomore Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista), who finished first for the women's team, "it was hot out and we didn't have the whole team competing today." Meyyappan finished third overall in a time of 19:08. "I really kept up my pace in the second mile which was my goal," added the sophomore.

Seniors Wade Lacy (Albany, N.Y. / The Albany Acadmies) and Alice Duan (Torrence Calif. / West) finished second and third, respectively, for the Tartans. "We really worked together to push each other," said Lacey who finished 10th overall in 20:07. "It was nice to be able to work with Wade the entire way up the hill," added Duan who followed in 11th in 20:19.

Senior Alli Scibisz (Hampton, N.H. / Winnacunnet) who has been battling through injury this season finished fourth for the Tartans and 14th overall in 20:37. Just seconds behind Scibisz, junior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) was fifth for the women's team and 16th overall in 20:41.

Sophomore Isabelle Chickanosky (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Joseph's Academy) placed sixth for the Tartans and 22nd overall in 21:19. Fellow Sophomore Madeline Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) was seventh for the women's team and 26th overall in 21:32.

The Tartans will race again next Saturday, October 13, at the Rowan Inter-Regional Invitational in Glassboro, New Jersey.
