Meyyappan Leads Tartans at UAA Championships

(KENOSHA, Wisconsin) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team placed sixth overall at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships hosted by the University of Chicago held at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The 25th-ranked women competed against a field of seven nationally ranked teams.

Placing 13th overall, sophomore Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) earned All-UAA Second Team status while leading the Tartans in a time of 22:44. "I think we had some good performances today, but I was more disappointed with our performance as a team this week," said the sophomore, "All-UAA was a fun title to achieve especially going into the next few weeks, it's definitely a confidence boost."

Juniors Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) and Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) finished 23rd and 24th overall in times of 23:05 and 23:07, respectively. Senior Wade Lacey followed in 46th in a time of 23:52.

Sophomore Isabelle Chickanosky (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Joseph's Academy) was fifth for the Cardinal and Gray placing 55th overall in 24:04. "I felt like I was constantly able to push myself, and just made up my mind to go for it a mile into the race," said Chickanosky. Juniors Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) and Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) finished sixth and seventh for the Tartans placing 56th and 58th overall in times of 24:07 and 24:12.

The Tartans will compete next at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships hosted by DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, on November 10th.
