Tartans Win Allegheny Classic for Third Straight Year

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The 23rd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team repeated as champions for the third time at the Allegheny College Classic on Saturday morning. The women scored six runners in the top 15 among a field of Division III teams including Allegheny and Case Western Reserve University.

Senior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md / Bethesda Chevy Chase) again led the Tartans placing second overall in a time of 18:33 on the 3 mile course. Junior Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) finished second for the Tartans and third overall in a time of 18:56.

"The girls really packed up today and finished together as a team and that really excited me for the season to come. We had some girls who are injured or are coming back and we had a strong showing despite not having our whole team with us," said Meyyappan.

A tight duo of Carnegie Mellon runners followed Meyyappan led by sophomore Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) who finished fifth overall in a time of 19:08. Senior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) finished two seconds behind in sixth in a time of 19:10.

Freshman Joyce Zhang (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial High School) ran to an incredible twelfth place finish in her second collegiate race in a time of 19:37. Sophomore Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont. / The Taft School) finished sixth for the Tartans and 14th overall in a time of 19:45.

Junior Madeline Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) closed out the Cardinal and Gray's top seven with a 17th place finish in a time of 20:06.

The Tartans will compete again at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday, October 5.
