Tartan Women’s Cross Country Releases 2020 Roster

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – While the 2020 season has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carnegie Mellon University head cross country coach Tim Connelly, in his sixth year at the helm of the Tartans, has released the women's roster for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Below are a few facts about the makeup of the 20-member women's cross country team.

Class Years: Seniors (7); Juniors (4); Sophomores (4); Newcomers (5)

Natives Of: California (4); China (1); Illinois (3); Maryland (1); Michigan (1); Missouri (1); Montana (1); New Jersey (2); Ohio (1); Pennsylvania (3); Virginia (2)

College of Study: College of Engineering (9); Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences (2); Mellon College of Science (2); School of Computer Science (5); Tepper School of Business (2)

Notes:

  • The Tartans received an at-large invitation to their third straight NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship in 2019 and placed 24th nationally.
  • It was the sixth team appearance in program history at the national event.
  • Four runners earned All-Region honors with two on the current roster: Kristen Seballos and Joyce Zhang.
  • Six members were named to were named to the All-Academic team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with three on current roster: Taylor Jacobs, Kristen Seballos and Joyce Zhang.
  • Last season marked the 25th consecutive season that the women's cross country team received all-academic team accolades by the USTFCCCA.
  • The Tartans had a runner named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American for the third straight year a season ago. 2020 graduate Emmalyn Lindsey, joins Maureen McGranaghan as the second three-time honoree in program history, as McGranaghan garnered the accolade from 1997-1999.

Thoughts from Head Coach Tim Connelly:
"Many of our runners trained consistently well throughout the summer, and weren't deterred by July's news that there would be no cross country season. We will be spending the rest of the fall working hard to continue to improve and prepare to race during the spring semester track season."
