Tartans Head into Break with 77-62 Victory Over Chatham

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team hosted Chatham University on Tuesday afternoon and defeated the Cougars 77-62.

How it Happened

  • The first 12 minutes of action saw the lead change hands with neither team leading by more than three points.
  • At the 7:52 mark of the first half, a pull up jumper by sophomore Buckley DeJardin put the Tartans ahead 19-18 which proved to be the last lead change of the game.
  • DeJardin's bucket started a 10-2 run for the Tartans, giving the home team a seven-point edge with four minutes to play in the first half before the Cardinal and Gray took a 40-28 lead into the locker room.
  • The Tartans maintained a double-digit lead the entire second half and led by as many as 22 points on three different occasions before holding on for the 77-62 victory.

  • Carnegie Mellon finished the game shooting 46.3% from the floor while converting only 4-of-16 from behind the arc.
  • DeJardin led a trip of Tartans that scored in double figures with 13 points.
  • Sophomore Justin Allen finished the game with 12 points while junior Nolan Casey tied his season-high with 10 points.  
  • Senior R.J. Holmes led the Tartans with 11 rebounds and finished with nine points.
  • Casey grabbed a career-high nine rebounds while tying career-high handing out four assists.

Cougar Stats

  • Chatham shot 30.8% from the floor and was 6-of-31 from long range.
  • Luca Robinson led Chatham with 18 points and hauled down nine rebounds while Dian Pinkett scored nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Game Notes

  • Carnegie Mellon now leads the all-time series 4-2.
  • The Tartans improved to 4-1 this season when holding their opponent under 73 points.
  • Allen and DeJardin have scored in double figures in all 10 games this season.
  • The four three-point baskets made for the Tartans tied a season-low.
