Tartans End Non-Association Slate With 73-69 Loss to Ithaca

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team hosted the Ithaca College Bombers on Tuesday afternoon and dropped a 73-69 contest to close out its non-University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule.

How it Happened

  • The first half saw the lead change nine times with the score tied in six other cases.
  • With the score knotted at 28-all with 6:36 to pay in the first half, Ithaca took its largest lead of the first stanza scoring six straights points that made the score 36-28 wit five minutes to play and then took a 38-36 advantage into the locker room.
  • The Bombers started the second half on a 13-2 run that extended the lead to 51-38 with 16:20 to play.
  • Ithaca's lead grew to 16 points on two different occasions while the visitors then held a 64-49 lead at the 9:41 mark.
  • Over the next nine minutes, Carnegie Mellon used an 18-4 run and pulled within a point at 68-67 with 47 ticks left in the contest. During the span, the Tartans held the Bombers to 1-of-12 shooting from the floor.
  • The Bomber's then connected on 4-of-5 from the foul line over the final 47 seconds and went on for the 73-69 victory.

  • The Tartans ended the game shooting 40.9% (27-66) while converting 5-of-30 (16.7%) from long range.
  • Four Tartans scored in double figures with senior Jack Stone and sophomore Justin Allen both scoring 20 points.
  • Senior R.J. Holmes ended with 13 points while sophomore Buckley DeJardin chipped in with 12.
  • Holmes led the Tartans with seven rebounds.

Bomber Stats

  • The Bombers finished shooting 33.3% (24-72) from the floor and made 12-of29 (41.4%) from behind the arc.
  • Three Bombers score in double figures with Triston Wennersten leading with 20 points
  • Logan Wendell finished with 18 points and Andrew Geschickter ended with 11.
  • Wennersten and Wendell each had seven rebounds to lead Ithaca.

Game Notes

  • This was the first meeting between the two programs.
  • It marked the sixth time this season Allen has scored 20 or more points in a contest.
  • Stone's 20 points is a season-high and it was the fifth time this season he scored in double figures in seven games played for the senior.
