Tartans Win 70-66 in Rochester
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team opened its road University Athletic Association slate on Friday night at the University of Rochester and walked away with a 70-66 win. The victory marked the first for the Tartans over the Yellowjackets in 10 years in Rochester.

How it Happened
- Rochester jumped out to a 10-3 lead six minutes into the game after the Tartans started converting only 1-of-8 from the floor.
- The Tartans responded scoring 10 straight over the next three minutes to grab a 13-10 advantage.
- The Yellowjackets answered with nine straight points and led 19-13 with 8:15 to play in the first half.
- Carnegie Mellon then knotted the score at 19-all following a jumper by junior Justin Allen and four consecutive points by senior R.J. Holmes.
- A floating jumper in the lane by senior Jack Stone with 3:43 on the clock put the Cardinal and Gray ahead 28-25, but the Yellowjackets ended the frame scoring the final seven points and led 32-28 at the break.
- Rochester extended its run from the first half to 17-4 over the first four minutes and pushed the lead to 42-32 as the Tartans started the second half shooting 1-of-6 from the floor.
- Like the first half, Carnegie Mellon answered with a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 44-41 with 13:08 to play.
- Rochester led 60-53 with 6:11 showing on the clock, but the Tartans scored eight straight and grabbed a 61-60 lead at the 3:35 mark.
- From there, the lead changed four times with the last time coming with 1:16 to play when sophomore Justin Allen drained a triple to give Carnegie Mellon a 67-65 lead.
- A layup by junior Nolan Casey with 24.6 seconds on the clock sealed the with for the Tartans while Holmes hit a free throw to end the scoring at 70-66.

- The Tartans shot 38.2% from the floor and converted 12-of-14 from the foul line.
- Carnegie Mellon turned 16 offensive rebounds into 20 second chance points.
- Allen led a trio of Tartans in double figures with 20 points. Holmes ended the game with 16 points while senior Jack Stone chipped in with 12.
- Stone finished with a season-high four steals.
Yellowjacket Stats
- The Yellowjackets shot 37.3% from the floor and converted 9-of-16 from the foul line.
- Logan Jagodzinski led Rochester with 20 points while Tomiwa Adetosoye ended with 16.
- Jagodzinski led all players with 10 rebounds.
Game Notes
- The last win the Tartans had over Rochester in New York was on January 19, 2014, when the Tartans came away with a 76-70 victory.
- The win also snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Cardinal and Gray over the Yellowjackets.
- Carnegie Mellon is now 5-2 the season when holding its opponent to under 73 points.
- It was the second straight game the Tartans won after trailing at the half and third time this season.
