Tartans Receive At-Large Bid to NCAA Championship

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team received an at-large bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship on Monday afternoon, marking the fourth-ever appearance by the Tartans and third under 34-year head coach Tony Wingen.

The Tartans last appeared in the NCAA tournament in 2009 and advanced to the second round. The Cardinal and Gray also made trips in 2006 and 1977. Carnegie Mellon will enter the championship tournament with an overall record of 16-9 after finishing third in the University Athletic Association (UAA).

Carnegie Mellon will face Rowan University (19-7) on Friday, March 1, at 3:15 p.m. in Washington, D.C., at Catholic University. Rowan received an at-large bid out of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) after falling in their conference tournament semifinal to The College of New Jersey.

The winner between the Tartans and Rowan will face the winner of Catholic University (24-3) out of the Landmark Conference and Worcester State University (18-9) out of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday, March 2, at 5:45 p.m.
