Tartans Place Second at Jekyll Island Collegiate

(ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team ended the 54-hole Jekyll Island Collegiate Sunday with a final round score of 299. For the second straight year, the Tartans finished second in a field of 30 teams after having a 54-hole score of 875 (297-279-299).

How it Happened:

  • The second round of play was suspended on Saturday because of inclement weather. Play was finished Sunday morning prior to the start of round three with the Tartans ending round two carding a four-under par 279.
  • After carding a season-low round of four-under par 67 in round two, senior Brian Xu fired a three-over par 74 on Sunday to finish with a 216 (75-67-74). Xu placed tied for seventh individually in a field of 150 golfers.
  • Junior Justin Chan fired a round of even par 71 for the second round and placed 12th individually with a 217 (72-71-74).
  • Sophomore David Zhang improved nine strokes in round two from his opening round score of 77. He then carded a 76 in the final round for a 221 (77-68-76).
  • In the second round, freshman Ryan Dannegger fired his best round of the event with a two-over par 73 and finished with a 222 (74-73-75) over the 54 holes.
  • Sophomore Jay Saluja carded a season-low round and the second round of two-over par 73 and then finished the 54-hole event with a 225 (76-73-76).
