Tartans Win The Visit Florence Intercollegiate; Xu Aces Hole 13

(MUSCLE SHORES, Ala.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team won The Visit Florence Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. The 54-hole event was played at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals. The Tartans carded a seven-under par 281 on Tuesday and ended with an 853 (285-287-281).

How it Happened:

  • Junior Justin Chan and sophomore David Zhang led the Cardinal and Gray with a 54-hole score of 211, tying them for third individually in a field of 62 golfers.  Zheng fired a four-under par 68 on Tuesday while Chan shot a three-under 69.
  • Senior Brian Xu recorded a hole-and-one on the 160-yard, par 3 13th hole. The senior finished the round even par and ended the 54-hole event with a four-under par 212 (68-72-72), placing seventh.
  • Freshman Ryan Dannegger recorded his best round of the event on Tuesday firing a round of even par 72 to finish with a 219 (73-74-72)
  • A season-best round of even par 72 on Tuesday for sophomore Jay Saluja gave him a total of 223 (77-74-72).
  • One individual competed for the Tartans with senior Stephen Dai ending with a 235 (81-78-76).

Notes:

  • The Tartans 54-hole score of 853 (-11) is the second lowest three-round score in program history.
  • The Tartans round of 281 (-7) is tied for the fifth best single-round in program history.
