Britton Earns All-America Honor in 100-yard Backstroke

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team earned more points at the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday, March 18, when senior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) took sixth in the 100-yard backstroke. The meet is being held at the IUPUI IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Britton earned a place in the championship final of the 100-yard backstroke by finishing the preliminaries in 47.50 to top his school record of 48.19 set at the 2019 NCAA Championships where he placed ninth. This year, Britton earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in 47.53.

Also competing for the day was senior Sean Ream (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) and junior Aleksander Tarczynski in the 200-yard butterfly, and senior Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) in the 100-yard breaststroke. Tarczynski placed 23rd in a time of 1:50.59 with Ream closing the race in 1:51.95 to place 27th. Daniel finished the breaststroke in 32nd place with a time of 56.11.

The 800-yard freestyle relay of senior Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge), freshman Adel Heddadji (San Ramon, Calif. / Dougherty Valley), Tarczynski, and junior John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples) placed just outside the top 16 in 18th place in 6:43.03.

Senior James Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School), who earned a fourth-place finish in 3-meter diving on Thursday, finished 17th with 415.15 points on the 1-meter board, just missing earning points for the Tartans.

The Tartans will be back on the final day of competition on Saturday, March 19, with swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, and 400-yard freestyle relay.
