Tartans Close Kenyon Invitational with a School Record and NCAA Cut Times

(GAMBIER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming team closed the Kenyon College Invitational on Saturday, November 19 with a third-place finish with 1,352 points and a few school records set. Kenyon won the meet with 2,581 points.

Top Performances

• Freshman David Zoota led the Tartans in the 1,650-yard freestyle with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 16:07.89 to place eighth and placed eighth in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:50.43.
• Freshman Arnav Deshpande touched sixth in the 200-yard backstroke in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:49.36.
• Senior Matthew Nagler was the top finisher in the 100-yard freestyle, touching 13th overall in 45.94.
• Freshman Max Kulbida topped the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing fourth in 2:01.37 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.
• Senior Aleksander Tarczynski broke a minute and fifty seconds in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing fourth in 1:49.24. His time is a career-best and an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
• The 400-yard freestyle relay touched fourth in 3:01.72 behind the swims of Deshpande, Nagler, senior Erik Feldmann, and Tarczynski. The mark hit the NCAA qualifying standard.

• The Tartans will break for the holiday and resume competition on Saturday, January 14 at Denison University in a tri-meet with Calvin University after their annual training trip to Florida.
